1. Food Bank Volunteer Position Description:
Food Bank volunteer is vital to our organization and contribute greatly to our community by helping offset costs through essential time spent on food preparation for our clients. A volunteer food bank worker assists with various aspects of food sorting, repackaging, and organizing donated products that helps continue our programs in a timely manner and keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the food needs of our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Food Bank Manager, volunteer food bank volunteer will:
- Sort food
- Repackage food
- Assist with adding dry goods to boxes and produce to bags
- Maintain safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves and pallet area neat
Required Skills
- Must be physically fit and able to easily lift up to 30 1bs regularly
- Able to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Good organization and time management skills
- Flexibility in schedule
2. Food Bank Counter Intake/Carry out (Volunteer) Position Description:
Food Bank counter intake/carry out volunteers are vital to our organization and contribute greatly to our community by helping offset costs through essential time spent on food receiving for our clients. A volunteer food bank counter intake/carry out assists with various aspects of hamper giving, asking clients questions, taking some client information, and/or help take groceries to client vehicles our programs in a timely manner and keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the food needs of our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Food Bank Manager, Food Bank Counter/Carry out will:
- Take client family size card
- Pack grocery card with allotted food based on family size
- Ask client food preference questions
- Push food out to vehicle for clients
- Maintain safe and clean work environment
Required Skills
- Must be physically fit and able to easily lift up to 30 1bs regularly
- Able to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Good organization and time management skills
- Flexibility in schedule
- Empathy, compassion, and patience
- Willing to commit to 10-15 hours per month
3. Administrative Support Worker (Volunteer) Position Description:
Administrative support workers are vital to our organization and contribute greatly to our community by helping offset costs through essential time spent on administrative tasks. A volunteer administrative support worker helps register clients in a timely manner and update client files when changes occur with the ever-increasing demands of the food needs of our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to Food Bank Manager, volunteer food bank worker will:
- Check for eligibility of clients and update files when changes occur
- Take client information for registration
- Add information to Link2Feed online data system
- Write out family size cards and daily totals
- Offer extra add-ons to clients (ex: hygiene products)
- Maintain safe and clean work environment
Required Skills
- Computer skills
- Online data base experience an asset
- Client intakes experience an asset
- Disrupting behaviour training an asset
- Ability to sit down for 2-3 hours
- Good organization and time management skills
- Flexibility in schedule
- Willing to commit to 10-15 hours per month
4. Soup Kitchen Volunteer Position Description:
Soup Kitchen volunteers are vital to our organization and contribute greatly to our community by helping offset costs through essential time spent on food preparation for our clients. A soup kitchen worker assists with various aspects of food sorting, repackaging, and organizing that helps continue our programs in a timely manner and keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the food needs of our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to Soup Kitchen Manager, Soup Kitchen volunteer will be:
- Making up trays
- Buttering and wrapping bread
- Helping with washing up and putting away clean dishes
- Spraying and wiping down tables
- End of service chairs put up onto tables followed by sweeping and mopping floors (this aspect of job is essential and requires physical stamina top mop floors and lift chairs)
Required Skills
- Must be physically fit and able to easily lift up to 30 1bs if required
- Able to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Ability to do light cleaning
- Good organization and time management skills
- Flexibility in schedule
- Shifts are as follows: 10:00 am-12:30 pm or 3:00 pm-5:30 pm (only during weekdays)
5. Special Events (Volunteer) Position Description:
Special Event volunteers are vital to our organization and contribute greatly to our community by helping offset costs through essential time spent on events like food drives. A volunteer helping with special events assists with various aspects of food sorting, repackaging, and organizing. That helps continue our programs in a timely manner and keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the food needs of our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to Community Engagement Manager, volunteer special events volunteer will:
- Accept food and monetary donations
- Sort food
- Maintain safe and clean work environment by keeping donation site clean

Required Skills
- Must be physically fit and able to easily lift to 30 1bs regularly
- Able to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time
- Enjoy working with others and communicating with the public
- Good organization and time management skills
